Travis Perkins Group awarded for Crossrail safety

Travis Perkins Plc has been given the ‘Transport Supplier of the Year’ award at the 2014 London Transport Awards. Presented for the group's performance on the Crossrail project, the award was in recognition of its efforts for safety and efficiency.

A multimillion pound project to deliver a high capacity railway to the capital and across the South East, there are extremely tight regulations in place controlling Crossrail time scales and safety.

In order to meet these, Travis Perkins has invested in a fleet of state-of-the-art vehicles, which includes satellite tracking and all round sensors and cameras.

The group has also invested heavily in staff training and personal protective equipment (PPE), to ensure that deliveries to construction sites along the Crossrail route meet, and exceed, all regulations.

Speaking about the award, Travis Perkins' Dave Davis said:

“The Travis Perkins Group, especially our network of drivers across Travis Perkins and Keyline, have had to work incredibly hard to meet the level of compliance required to meet Crossrail standards.”

The regional sales director for the South East continued:

“We’re incredibly proud of the recognition this award represents and for contributing to one of London’s greatest infrastructure success stories.”

Davis was also quick to highlight the importance of the firm's 'Stay Safe' initiative. Controlled by a series of 'Golden Rules', he said it helped ensure that a high standard of health and safety is achieved throughout the Travis Perkins group of companies.

He added that by having this focussed effort, health and safety obligations are not just met, but are exceeded.
