Site checks taking place in WalesPosted on 04/03/2009
A series of spot checks are taking place on construction sites across Wales in the coming weeks, it has been announced.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced it is targeting 80 sites in the country as part of an initiative to rate the standard of work on 1,500 construction workplaces in the UK.
Personal protective equipment may be touched upon during the inspections, which are set to focus on the use of precautions when working at height, as well as general good order on the sites.
Stephen Williams, the chief construction inspector for the HSE, said the body 'will continue to target the contractors and principal contractors on those sites which flout health and safety law and come down hard on them where necessary'.
Last week, the HSE launched a new campaign aimed at the UK's property developers.
It was recently revealed that many people developing small-scale projects are unaware of their legal responsibilities.
