Safety gloves should always be used where required

It is vital that staff ensure they wear safety gloves where the equipment is necessary, one source has warned, following the injury of a worker.
HL.BLR.com reported that an employee of SMS Rail Lines suffered severe injuries to his hands and arms in an accident on February 2008, despite having been provided with personal protective equipment by his employer, including safety gloves.
However, he was not wearing the gloves at the time of the accident and severed a tendon in his left wrist, as well as suffering multiple extensor lacerations, and radial nerve damage.
The worker claimed that he was not told the wearing of the gloves was mandatory and also did not receive training, which many new employees did, as he was an existing worker.
The case will now go before a jury in the US to determine fault, but the website noted that it highlights the importance of always wearing personal protective equipment in potentially dangerous circumstances.© Adfero Ltd
