Safety gloves can prevent skin disease
Workers can help to drastically reduce their chances of developing skin disease by wearing safety gloves and other personal protective equipment, it has been claimed.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning to employees and companies to ensure they take adequate precautions to prevent exposure to harmful materials.
'Avoiding contact will not always be possible so use suitable personal protective equipment such as gloves. Remind workers to wash any contamination from their skin promptly,' the watchdog advised.
It added that employees can protect the skin by moisturising as often as possible and particularly at the end of the day, replacing the natural oils that help keep the skin's protective barrier working properly.
Recently, the HSE warned workers and employers that it is 'essential' to use protective gloves, particularly when operating in industries where dangerous machinery is used, as well as training safety managers to identify risks before they cause injury.
