Roofing workers must be given safety equipment
Those operating in Greater Manchester's roofing sector have been encouraged to focus more on safety equipment and working at height.
In a development that may interest the likes of safety boots users, roofing companies based in the region were recently given the chance to learn more about key safety issues during a Trading Standards/Health and Safety Executive (HSE) event.
HSE's north-west principal inspector Neil Jamieson believes that firms need to be aware of the safety risks posed by working at height.
He stated: 'We're worried that some roofing and building companies in Greater Manchester are trying to cut down on costs and undercut each other by not using scaffolding and other safety equipment.'
Meanwhile, the safety of the UK's workforce might also be improved with the introduction of the Control of Artificial Optical Radiation at Work Regulations.
The HSE last month confirmed that these regulations are now applicable to the country's businesses.
