Retailer joins forces with HSE
A leading home improvement retailer in the UK has joined forces with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to highlight the dangers of asbestos.
Homebase has lent its support to the organisation's Asbestos: The Hidden Killer campaign, which hopes to prevent fatalities caused by the related diseases by increasing understanding of the issue.
It is hoped the campaign will help to encourage construction firms and those in other sectors to use the necessary personal protective equipment when working close to the substance.
Gill Spurier, the HSE's head of operations for Yorkshire and Humber, said there was a need to educated tradesmen on the issue.
She added: 'We want them to change the way they work so that they don't put their lives at risk.'
The HSE recently claimed it was 'disappointed' with the outcome of its spot-checks on refurbishment sites in north Cheshire, where several areas were given notices to stop work immediately.
A number of sites were also given enforcement notices.
