Protective boots may be needed as self-build desire expressed
More people may have need of protective boots in the near future, as new research has found that self-build home projects are of increasing interest to Britons.
According to Norwich & Peterborough Building Society (N&P), 12 per cent are keen to take on such a project within the next year, while 30 per cent would consider having their house built in this way within the next five years if the money is available.
Figures from the National Self-Build Association indicate that approximately 15,000 people in the UK build their own homes each year, with the market worth around £2 billion.
Mortgage manager at N&P Richard Barker said: "Self build is a market with huge potential which could have many benefits for those willing to carry out a self build project, not to mention the benefits for the general economy."
Housing minister Grant Shapps welcomed a new self-build industry action plan earlier this month, which set out proposals to help those involved in such projects, including encouraging lenders to offer more products to people constructing their own properties.
