PPE to be discussed at Cumbria safety event

Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be among the subjects discussed at a forthcoming safety event in Cumbria, it has been confirmed, in a development which may interest those who use products like safety boots.

Based in Cockermouth, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) initiative will give local building firms the chance to learn more about important issues such as skin conditions and asbestos.

Cumbria HSE construction inspector Robin Gonard has highlighted the rebuilding work that is currently being undertaken in the area after it was hit by floods in 2009.

He stated: 'There's a huge amount of building work taking place in Cockermouth at the moment to help the town get back on its feet.'

The HSE will stage the event on June 30th at the town's Sheep and Wool Centre.

Meanwhile, the watchdog has also been focusing on quarry safety this week, with chair Judith Hackitt attending the Hillhead 2010 quarry exhibition.
