  3. PPE testing rig ready

BSI Product Services has announced that it has completed the construction of a rig in its Hemel Hempstead laboratory for the purpose of high impact testing of helmets and protective eyewear.

The testing and accreditation arm of the British Standards Institution states that now the rig is operational it can lead the way in the testing of PPE equipment, Manufacturing talk reports.

With the new equipment designed to test new-style tall helmets, BSI product manager Guy Huxtable said: 'With health and safety as well as risk management issues continually attracting more attention, we believe that we now have the range of testing equipment necessary to provide a comprehensive service to our clients in this field.'

The organisation said this kind of testing was becoming 'more and more relevant' with the London 2012 Olympics coming up.

Work on the Olympic site is continuing, with the Olympic Delivery Authority stating earlier this month that the recent completion of the first underground cable tunnel to the Olympic Park will enable construction work on the venues to begin next summer, the BBC reported.
