  3. North launches new self-Retracting Lifeline

North Safety Products has announced the design of a new lightweight, self-retracting serviceable lifeline, improving safety and reducing the cost of ownership.

The group, one of the world's largest manufacturers of occupational health and safety products, said that Duralite lll is made of a lightweight, impact resistant nylon housing that weighs just 1.1 kg (2.4lbs).

As a result, the new lightweight system is a favorite of workers using a telescopic pole or first man up systems. It is also one of the few Type 1 units that is serviceable, reducing the cost of ownership.

Until now fall arrest blocks were either heavy and serviceable or light and disposable. However, the new centrifugal braking system is generally accepted to be an improvement to the traditional "car seat belt" technology in other units as it will not lock up when the worker is traveling to or from the anchor. Meanwhile, a swiveling anchor prevents the webbing from twisting and tangling.

The Duralite lll also employs Dyneema polyester webbing to improve durability and also because of its cut-resistant properties.
