New safety strategy to promote protective gloves
A new health and safety strategy is to be launched next month, in a bid to encourage measures such as the use of protective gloves on building sites.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will unveil a new scheme, entitled Be Part of the Solution, on June 3rd.
It will see keynote speakers such as the work and pensions minister James Purnell and Trades Union Congress general secretary Brendan Barber address issues of health and safety in workplaces and construction sites across the country.
The HSE's strategy is expected to highlight the country's need to improve its safety record, minimising risks while ensuring business competitiveness is maintained.
Business heads will be encouraged to make sure that their staff do not risk cutting important safety corners during the economic downturn.
The HSE's new strategy follows recent construction site inspections by the watchdog which saw one in five firms fail to live up to expectations.
