  3. New line of fireproof workwear denim set for market

Two leading fabric and workwear manufacturers in the US have announced a collaboration that will see a new flame-resistant denim available.

The partnership will see Westex by Milliken, well known in America for its fire-retardant fabrics, and denim specialist Cone Denim work together.

Both firms have a strong customer base in the US with those working in hazardous conditions and outdoor environments.

The move has come after a gap was spotted in the market for workers who appreciated the comfort of denim, but could not find this with current products. It is believed that the newly developed fire-resistant denim could offer this comfort.

Westex has also said that the material will offer a longer lifespan, being resistant to shrinkage in the laundering process.

There is also a range of options available with the items of clothing, which come in a variety of colours. The range will be “stylish” and “safe” according to Westex.

The vice president of the firm, Mike Enright, said that Cone Denim's strong reputation for innovation and quality products was key to the deal, going on to say:

“Similarly, Milliken and Westex by Milliken have a strong heritage of innovation providing industry-leading, customer-centric solutions.”

Enright said the partnership will allow superior products to be made.

Steve Maggard, the vice president for product development at Cone Denim’s parent firm Cone 3D, agreed. He went on to say that the firm's move into safety workwear was a natural development for the evolution of the company.
