New employee health campaign could raise safety boots awarenessPosted on 14/09/2009
Employees across the UK are being encouraged to raise their awareness of health and safety measures, which could include the improved use of personal protective equipment like safety boots.
As part of this week's Trades Union Congress (TUC) conference in Liverpool, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is hoping to teach more workers about the importance of following good practices.
The body is seeking to show people how taking an active part in health and safety processes can have a positive impact on workplace environments.
It wants to see managers and their employees liaise proactively when it comes to health and safety, to share concerns and improve standards.
Hugh Robertson of the HSE and TUC commented: 'Worker involvement must be a pillar of any organisation's health and safety strategy.
'However, it is not worker involvement alone, but worker involvement where the employees are supported by a trade union that has been shown to be most effective in driving down injuries.'
The HSE recently called on the offshore industry to maintain good levels of health and safety, ensuring the correct use of things like personal protective equipment.
