Japan donates PPE to ASEAN
The Japanese government has donated hundreds of thousands of sets of personal protection equipment (PPE) to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in a bid to combat the spread of bird flu.
Some 700,000 suits have been sent to south-east Asia as part of the ASEAN-Japan Integration Fund's plan to provide tami flu tablets and PPE to help fight avian influenza in the region.
The first of these have now been sent to both the ASEAN region and to Singapore.
Meanwhile, the ASEAN-Japan Integration Fund has also enabled the provision of technical assistance to agencies involved in the fight against bird flu.
Ultimately the Japanese government intends to contribute some $70.1 million through the ASEAN-Japan Integration Fund to combat the spread of the disease.
