Hygiene important to combating bird flu
A new survival guide, launched in the UK today for businesses, aims to advise companies how to deal with a pandemic if a mutant form of Bird flu sweeps through Britain.
Suvival UK's guide includes the recommendation that businesses 'Consider health & hygiene measures.'
Protective face masks and other equipment, which Survival UK supplies, are one of the measures that many experts have recommended to shield against respiratory infections likeBird flu and Sars.
Last month, Stanford University expert Tracy Ferea wrote in Agaravox that 'Only by wearing the appropriate quality masks, gloves, and goggles can the flu virus be prevented from entering through the mucosal membranes of the eyes, nose, and mouth.'
Survival's warning comes as Indonesia announced its 56th death from the virus.
Experts fear that a mutant strain of the H5N1 virus could emerge, capable of spreading from human to human and leading to a pandemic that could kill millions.
So far, all known human cases of H5N1 have been caused by close contact with poultry carrying the virus.
