Home improvers using protective gloves should know their limits
People looking to try their hand at DIY should ensure they do not over-stretch themselves and put their safety at risk, it is suggested.
In a development that may interest those considering investing in safety gear like protective gloves before undertaking DIY procedures, Duncan Hayes, the temporary editor of Build It magazine, believes people should know their limits.
He said: 'If you're doing something like replacing a radiator valve - a very simple thing - if you don't know what you are doing and you don't have the right bits of plumbing gear, then you can get in an awful lot of mess and cause damage.'
Mr Hayes added that while DIY can save people money, it can also lead to accidental damage if it is not carried out correctly.
Figures from the Halifax Home Improvement Survey revealed in July that many people believe a loft conversion could help to improve the value of their home.
