Hiring building professionals could improve employment rates
Homeowners could improve the country's employment situation by hiring professional builders to help them undertake property improvements, it has been suggested.
In a development that might interest those operating in the UK's construction trade, and other users of personal protective equipment like safety gloves, Andrew Leech, National Home Improvement Council director, has noted the knock-on benefits of hiring professionals.
He said: 'It is fine if they [homeowners] want to do it themselves, but if they can take on local tradesmen who are qualified to do the job, then that boosts employment as well.'
Mr Leech has also reacted positively to recent Royal Institute of British Architects and Shelter research, which showed that a number of consumers have home improvement aspirations.
Earlier in April, Andrew Bernard, JML's resident DIY presenter, noted that while DIY is often a good option for people, there are certain projects that may require expert help.
