HSE to launch Teesside spot checks
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced it is to carry out a series of spot checks across Teesside.
From the start of next week (January 26th), the organisation is planning to get its inspectors to visit a number of companies based on industrial estates across the region.
Personal protective equipment may be touched upon during the investigations, which will focus on working at height, manual handling and hazardous substances.
Laura Lyons, an inspector for the HSE, said it is hoped the checks will help businesses to ensure they have necessary precautions in place to protect staff.
She added: 'Preventing an accident occurring is much better than having to deal with the consequences, and we will be able to offer constructive, practical advice where appropriate.'
The HSE also recently announced plans to hold a free safety awareness event for crofters and farmers based on the Isle of Skye on February 10th.
