HSE to inspect refurbishment sites
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced it is to inspect construction sites in Derbyshire from the start of this week.
According to the body, the move has been made after an initiative earlier in the year found that construction sites in the region had a poor record of implementing health and safety guidelines.
Issues such as the correct installation and inspection of personal protective equipment (PPE) are to be focused on during the scheme.
Frank Lomas, the HSE's principal inspector of construction for the East Midlands, said: 'We will have inspectors out across the High Peak throughout this week to continue to take firm action against rogue elements who ignore safety precautions.
'Sites where health and safety is taken seriously have nothing to fear, but we will root out those that put lives at risk.'
Contractors in the construction industry were recently urged by the Health and Safety Executive to ensure they use the correct PPE when working at height.
