HSE safety guidance offered to SW farm owners

A range of safety guidance was recently issued to farmers in one south-west region of the country, thanks to the launch of a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) event.
Users of protective gear such as safety gloves might be interested to note that the Cannington-based event saw issues such as safe livestock handling and machinery maintenance discussed, with around 350 farmers taking part.
The agricultural sector needs to focus enough attention on the issue of health and safety, Sandy Blair, the HSE's agricultural champion, believes.
He stated: 'Modern agriculture of course still requires very hard work over long hours, but it doesn't need to be the most dangerous occupation in Britain.'
Towards the end of last month, safety guidance was also provided to farm owners by the National Farmers' Union.
The organisation noted that farmers could focus on harvest safety in the coming weeks by carrying out things such as proper basic vehicle maintenance checks. © Adfero Ltd
