Fort lift truck operators should use safety boots when required

Operators of fork lift trucks should ensure they wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety boots in order to reduce accidents and deaths within the sector, according to one firm.

Newlands Training Limited has used the recent National Fork Lift Safety Week to raise awareness of the dangers some employees may face if they do not take precautions.

The firm believes truck operators should always wear PPE like safety boots and hard hats when it is necessary to do so.

It is also calling on workers to try and get to grips with any recommendations made in a truck's operator manual.

Lesley Simpson, the company's managing director, commented that 'insufficient' observations often lead to forklift truck-related accidents.

They said: 'It is imperative that the number of accidents in the workplace decrease. Employers definitely have the power to make this happen.'

Newlands Training has also recently highlighted the importance of new First Aid at Work regulations which are set to be implemented by the Health and Safety Executive shortly.
