  3. Firm wins health and safety award

A Woking-based construction firm was among the winners at the recent Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents' Health and Safety Awards.

Covering a wide range of health and safety issues, which may have included the use of personal protection equipment, the awards recognised the efforts taken by firms to improve their practices to ensure the safety of their workers.

Saffron Contract Services received a gold medal from the society, to add to its silver medal award from last year, the Woking News & Mail reports.

David Robinson, managing director of the firm, said: 'We were previously holders of a silver award and are delighted to have achieved this further recognition of our group's commitment to safe working and staff training.'

Overall, the ceremony saw 1,400 winners, with the 'premier' occupational health and safety award – the Sir George Earle Trophy – awarded to Costain Major Civil Engineering Division, based in Berkshire.
