Fall arrest equipment can prevent serious injury
The use of fall arrest equipment could have an impact on the number of accidents that take place at work.
Speaking after a court case which saw WJ Watkins and Son fined after one of its members of staff suffered a fractured skull in a fall, Health and Safety Executive inspector Simon Jones said the company had not thought through how its staff were to work safely.
He said that as a result of the negligence of the company, it almost cost one of their workers his life.
"Working at height must be properly planned and supervised, and employers must ensure their staff have a safe system in place to prevent further incidents of this kind," Mr Jones added.
The company was fined by Barnstaple Magistrates court for violating Section 2 (1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act, which states it is the duty of an employer to ensure the safety of all the people who work for them.
