Employer duty of care over PPE explained
Pilz Automation Technology has released a guide explaining the responsibility of the employer in ensuring health and safety rules are adhered to, an area which includes personal protection equipment (PPE) used in construction projects.
In the explanation, health and safety expert Ian Murgatroyd stated that this does not just mean ensuring that employees working on the site are protected but also any visitors who may come in from outside.
He said that section three requires their safety to be protected by the employer too, which may require the provision of PPE.
In such cases, Mr Murgatroyd said, 'relevant personal protective equipment (PPE), along with training on how to use it correctly, may need to be provided'.
Earlier this month a health and safety expert told Contract Journal that failure to wear the correct PPE was the most commonly broken health and safety rule.
