DIY saves money and boosts confidence, expert claims
Property owners taking on simple DIY tasks around the home will be able to save some cash and improve their confidence, according to an expert.
Jason Orme, editor at Homebuilding & Renovating, said basic jobs such as putting up wallpaper can allow Brits to feel a bit more in charge of their own domain by stamping their own authority and personality on the property.
"Certainly in terms of managing and living in a home successfully, I think that you do need to be able to learn the basic tasks," he added.
However, he stressed the fact that dangerous or potentially difficult tasks should always be carried out by a professional in order to avoid causing serious damage to the property.
This follows a report from Kingfisher suggesting a total sale increase of 4.9 per cent at B&Q, perhaps because homeowners are taking advantage of their summer holidays to carry out some DIY jobs they have planned.
