Britain best in world for protective boots and safety gloves
The UK is ahead of the rest of the world when it comes to making personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety gloves and protective boots, it has been claimed.
Chief executive of the British Safety Industry Federation David Lummis said Britain has been speeding ahead with developments such as making equipment look better as well as developing new technology and innovations to meet user needs.
"This combined with a more highly skilled and educated workforce has created higher expectations from PPE end users. This demand for better PPE has in turn fuelled PPE product development," he declared.
Mr Lummis also pointed to two pieces of UK legislation - The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations as driving the development of better PPE.
The number of PPE items used may growth thanks to another piece of legislation - the proposed National Planning Policy Framework.
According to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, this will help speed up the process of getting building projects under way.
