  3. See 25 Years of UK Health and Safety Legislation in Our Infographic

No matter what your profession, you have the right to come home safely from work every single day. It’s this universal right that is upheld by various pieces of legislation across the industries, holding employers and employees responsible for creating and maintaining a workplace environment that is safe for everyone within it.

In the 25 years since Protec Direct was established to provide the highest quality safety equipment and protective clothing and workwear, several major pieces of UK legislation have been put into place that are concerned with the design and construction industry in particular. Thanks to these, the number of fatalities at work each year has dropped from 433 in 1990 to 133 in 2013 – that’s a reduction of 69%, or to put it more simply, 300 more people who go home to their families after every workday.

With every piece of new legislation introduced there becomes a need for better equipment that complies with the rules. In the infographic below you’ll see a timeline of health and safety legislation that has been introduced in the UK in the past 25 years, along with the Protec Direct products that became more in demand as a result!

However at Protec Direct we know that 133 workplace fatalities per year is still too high a number, which is why we are committed to providing reliable PPE that exceeds the requirements of all current health and safety legislation. This is something we’ve done for the past quarter century, and in the infographic below you’ll also discover more about our journey from a small local business, to one of the biggest suppliers of PPE in the UK.
