HSE warns about importance of fall prevention

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published a new document advising companies to ensure any scaffolding they make use of is safe and erected properly, noting that it is vital anyone putting up access equipment is properly trained.It noted that all scaffolding should be put up and dismantled according to recognised guidance or specific instructions provided by a manufacturer, adding that this should all be done by a competent person.
This comes after a Leicester worker was injured after falling from a platform while working on a roof.
"Installing roofs is a high risk activity and builders should not become complacent about ensuring that fall protection, in whatever form, is provided throughout the work," said HSE inspector Tony Mitchell.
The organisation stresses the importance of providing appropriate fall arrest equipment to employees who need to carry out tasks above ground level, noting that a tumble from any height is potentially dangerous.
