One of our operators has an ear infection and the doctor told him he must wear ear muffs that allow air flow. Do you have any advice on what ear muffs I can get for him?

Hi Julia,

Unfortunately there are no ear muffs available with air flow as the air flow would also allow sound in which would affect the snr rating of the muff.

The only thing we can advise is that if you are using disposable plugs at the moment, a muff would be better and that you make sure the hygeine kit for the muff is regulary changed.

Thanks for your response. Our operator is already using ear muffs but I will advise him that he must clean them regularly and replace the cushioning pads. Can I obtain the hygiene kit to which you refer from Protec? It is logical to me that if the muffs were vented to allow air flow then sound could also get in.

hi

i wear peltor optime 111
i have started to get pains behind my ears which i know is being caused by the earmuffs.
(as when i take them off, the pain goes away)
i can feel them "digging in" to the back of my ears)
i wear these earmuffs for between 8 and 10 hours. surely you can wear them for that time?
should i renew them every few months?

Hi Malcolm

Optime III is a super muff and has been developed for use in extremely noisy environments hence it has been made based on a technology with a double casing and the sealing rings are broad and filled with soft plastic foam for the best fit and low contact pressure.You can adjust the headband on the muffs so that the cushions exert even pressure around the ears to get the best reduction level and also maybe this will relieve the pain. Maybe if a muff is not suitable you could try the peltor optime III neck band H540B to see if that is more comfortable for you. The cushions usually need to be replaced twice a year or perhaps more if they become cracked stiff or they do not seal.The hygiene kit required for optime III is HY52.3
