Workers need more guidance on PPE and safety gloves

People working in the construction industry need clearer guidance on personal protective equipment (PPE) products such as safety gloves which are best-suited to their needs, according to a new report.

Research from the building technologies firm 3M shows that while many building site managers and employees are taking safety precautions, more needs to be done to cut the number of people suffering from work-related injuries.

The independent report suggests that workers and health and safety managers are being swamped by the different equipment products on the market and often fail to choose the PPE that is right for their needs.

Of those polled, one in four health and safety managers say the main issue they face is currently knowing which level of PPE should be used for different hazards.

Jo Partridge, technical services manager at 3M, says that it is important protective gear strikes the right balance between comfort and security.

She commented: 'Our aim, as a global manufacturer of personal protective equipment, is to keep people safer at work and to help and support health and safety managers.'

The UK's Health and Safety Executive recently launched a summer campaign to reduce the number of health and safety accidents taking place on building sites by promoting the use of PPE such as safety gloves.
