  3. UK companies honoured by British Safety Council

A number of UK companies are among those to have been awarded the Globe of Honour and Sword of Honour awards, by the British Safety Council.

The awards are presented to companies around the world that have demonstrated an excellent standard of risk management for their workers' health and safety. The successful companies have been judged by an independent panel, to assess their ability to protect the environment and their employees from any risks posed by the activities within the organisation.

The Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, Mike Robinson, said that he was pleased that so many companies from different regions of the world and a wide variety of organisations had been awarded. He added that they were leaders of health and safety management, achieving a sustainable, safe and healthy workplace. He added that the British Safety Council wanted to promote the success of the winning companies, as others could learn from their practices, protecting all workers and the environment.

The successful companies come from the UK, the Middle East, India and mainland Europe, while the industries include leisure, food and drink, construction, manufacturing and retail and transport. Aston Martin, United Biscuits (UK) Ltd and Britvic Soft Drinks were among the successful companies.

Seven of the organisations were awarded both of the honours, which is a particular success. All companies have a duty of care to their employees and must comply with health and safety legislation, including the use of and special workwear and PPE where necessary.
