Strong pesticides need to be handled correctly
The way in which pesticides are used and stored can require a high degree of care, with material that is not used properly posing a big risk to the health of the people around it.
Strong chemicals that are used to kill plants and weeds need to be stored properly, with Elaine Close, from the Chemicals Regulation Directorate at the Health and Safety Executive, saying there are strict rules in place for certain materials.
Some products could require the wearer to use safety gloves or protective workwear to prevent them from being harmed if the material is accidently spilt, while many types need to be properly stored.
"It is up to everyone who is involved with pesticides to ensure that they are used safely and effectively and that they are stored correctly," Ms Close said.
Keeping on top of health and safety rules was recently described by Phil Johnson, director at Construction Safety, as not being a difficult task to do, with compliance with the basic rules all that is needed to ensure people will be safe at work.
