Rok has announced that it was among the winners at a recent awards ceremony held by the British Safety Council.

The company, which is one of the UK's leading building firms, was given the International Safety Award at the event for its efforts to integrate health and safety policies into its business practices.

As part of its work, the firm introduced an initiative to encourage employees to wear hand protection on projects where they may be at risk.

Rok's safety, health and environment (SHE) director Shaun Davis said that the company has worked to emphasis the importance of 'sensible safety' to its staff.

The director and the company's SHE business improvement leader Laura Lambert accepted the award on behalf on the company from the British Safety Council's trustee Dave Woodwark.

Derbyshire-based building firm Wildgoose Construction was recently given the gold award for health and safety from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.

According to the region's Evening Telegraph, the firm was given the accolade for its efforts to create 'a safe working environment'.
