Personal protective equipment essential for DIY
Anybody considering completing DIY tasks over the bank holiday weekend should ensure they are fully prepared for the task by using personal protective equipment, one source has advised.
It is particularly important for those planning on using chainsaws to complete work in the garden to use safety gloves, safety boots and other protective equipment, said nine-time Stihl Timbersports Champion Jason Wynyard, the national face of Stihl Chainsaw Safety Awareness Week.
He told Stuff.co.nz that many people think safety equipment is not essential, especially for quick jobs in the garden, but these individuals do not realise that safety gloves, boots and goggles are a worthwhile investment.
"This attitude is exactly why preventable injuries occur. It only takes five minutes to get sorted in your safety gear - getting injured can happen to anyone, we're not made of steel," the expert warned.
Recently, Scott Sligh, electric superintendent in Fairhope, Alabama, told Baldwin County Now that it is important that anybody considering scaling back their trees uses safety gloves to ensure they do not injure themselves.
