New home-builds could see builders pull on safety gloves
Builders could have more opportunities to pull on their safety gloves and other personal protective equipment if more was done to encourage greater house building, it has been suggested.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders, said that currently, it looks unlikely that there will be a significant increase in the number of new homes being built this year.
'We are not overly optimistic at this stage that we are going to see a massive rebound in house building,' he said.
However, the latest figures from the National House-Building Council show that the number of homes registered by house builders increased last month.
Mr Berry suggested that an 'easing of mortgage liquidity' would help ensure first-time buyers can enter the market.
Just last week, the Union of Construction, Allied Trades and Technicians also suggested that the construction sector could have received a much needed boost if the government had focused on new social housing developments in the Budget.
