Hire firm that promotes PPE use wins safety award

A UK-based equipment hire firm which promotes the use of protective workwear in the workplace has scooped a major award.

Speedy Hire was awarded the Best Contribution to Health and Safety award at the Hire Association of Europe Awards of Excellence due to its campaigning to promote the importance of health and safety in the construction industry.

The company has also worked specifically to increase awareness of the importance of protecting workers from dangerous particles released during building work through the use of respiratory protection and other measures.

Speedy hire is one of the UK's largest hire companies for the construction trade and employs around 3,800 employees across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland.

The recognition for its campaigns to highlight health and safety has come after the Health and Safety Executive organised an event to promote safe working practices in a construction safety day in Cumbria.

Held in Kendal, the free event was organised to show local firms in the area what they can do to improve their health and safety records.
