Hand protection month will promote protective gloves

Safety products such as protective gloves will be promoted during a manufacturing firm's global hand safety month.

The personal protective equipment company Ansell has designated May as its National Construction Worker Hand Safety Month.

It will use the coming weeks to encourage hand safety awareness among thousands of industry professionals across the globe.

The company found that in 2007 alone, millions of pounds-worth of disability funds were allocated to those who suffered potentially preventable hand injuries.

Sean Sweeney, senior market development manager for Ansell, suggests safety gloves should form a key part of construction workers' kit.

He comments: 'An alarming number of construction workers continue to perform their work tasks barehanded, putting them at risk for costly and potentially devastating injuries.'

Ansell aims to promote hand protection throughout May and will run further training programmes educating building workers about the factors they should consider before buying protective products.

The firm specialises in hand and arm protection technologies, with brands including AlphaTec and HyFlex industrial safety gloves.
