  3. HSE to hold safety event

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced plans to hold a free safety awareness event in Portree.

According to the organisation, the seminar on February 10th has been created specifically for crofters and farmers based on the Isle of Skye and could touch upon topics including personal protective equipment.

Several trainers from Lantra are set to be at the event holding demonstrations on a number of topics, while staff from the HSE will also be available to answer questions.

Lawrence Murray, an inspector for the HSE, urged all farmers based in the region to attend.

He added: 'Over a period of time everyone picks up bad habits and this event will help refresh their memories on how they can keep their promise to their families and friends, to the land they farm, and to their communities to come home safe.'

The HSE recently also announced plans to hold a half-day workshop in Aberdeen to give those who employ migrant workers advice.
