  3. HSE to hold safety event

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced plans to hold an event for those in Dorset's farming sector.

Set to be held at Kingston Maurward Agricultural College in Dorchester on February 19th, the evening training course is aimed at those aged between 16 and 30-year-olds.

Personal protective equipment could be touched upon during the event, which will consider issues including manual handling, working at height and the safe operation of machinery.

Glenda Treneary, organiser of the event for the HSE, said the idea was to get young people 'out of the classroom and into the workshop'.

'We will have qualified trainers who are also farmers, so they will be able to demonstrate sensible practical ways of keeping safe from 'first-hand' experience,' she added.

The HSE recently announced it is carrying out a series of spot checks across Teesside from the start of next week (January 26th).

Inspectors will look at a number of workplaces based on industrial estates in the region.
