Firms must continue workplace health focus, safety boots wearers told
Businesses should continue to focus on the health and safety of their employees, according to one European body.
In a development that may suggest the need for companies to continue making use of personal protective equipment like safety boots when necessary, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) believes workplace safety continues to be a key issue.
As many as six in ten Europeans feel the economic downturn could lead to a worsening of employment conditions, research published by the organisation suggests.
EU-OSHA director Jukka Takala now believes that companies should not cut back on the occupational health and safety provisions they offer.
She said: 'The financial crisis may lead organisations to ignore or minimise the importance of workplace safety and health.
'The challenge to us, as the agency, is to convince them that there is no point in making short-term gains at the cost of long-term problems.'
Meanwhile, the UK's Health and Safety Executive recently teamed up with the country's police force to emphasise the importance of health and safety issues.
