Fall arrest equipment can help avoid accidents

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has issued a warning to employers to ensure that they follow health and safety rules at all times, after a man was paralysed and later died as the result of a fall.

The man and his fellow workers had been fitting roofing panels without safety gear and had been balancing on narrow beams to carry out the work.

In the incident, the man was on a four-inch wide beam when he lost his balance and fell to the ground.

In response to accident, the HSE says that property construction firms must follow health and safety rules at all times.

Investigating inspector at HSE, Kevin Jones, said:
"Had the employer used scaffolding or netting, the worker would still be alive today.

"I sincerely hope that this case acts as a warning to other property developers."

As well as scaffolding, personal safety gear, such as fall arrest equipment, can help protect workers from injury when working at height.
