  3. Contractors urged to use correct safety equipment

Contractors have been urged by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to ensure they use the correct personal protective equipment when working at height.

Guy Dale, an inspector for the organisation, made the comment after a company was fined for an incident in which a maintenance engineer's hand was trapped in a forklift truck after attempting to steady himself on a ladder.

It is believed that the accident occurred as the firm failed to ensure that the member of staff, as well as two colleagues, had planned their work in advance.

Discussing the incident, Mr Dale said that the provision of 'all the necessary equipment' could have ensure the workers' safety.

He added: 'Proper planning for such work and taking necessary precautions to prevent falls are often simple and there is ample free guidance readily available to help companies take the right action.'

Sperian recently launched a new fall protection system which is designed for better versatility and movement capabilities.
