Car industry bucks manufacturing trend
Many sectors of the UK manufacturing industry have not been faring well in recent months, but the car industry appears to be an exception, according to new data
The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has revealed production in July was up by 22.2 per cent, the 13th successive month of growth.
If this trend continues, it may help the car industry increase its workforce, which will necessitate new orders for protective workwear.
Commenting on the outlook for the sector, chief executive of the SMMT Paul Everett said the "uncertainty" in Europe was one potential problem.
Despite this, he stated: "The £6 billion investment committed to the UK in the last two years delivers long-term growth opportunities and the latest figures show that our products have enormous global appeal."
The fortunes of the car industry contrast with the rest of UK manufacturing.
According to the initial estimate by the Office for National Statistics, the second quarter of this year saw output in the production industries falling by 1.3 per cent.
