Meanwhile, those considering investing in a good pair of safety boots might also be interested to note that the firm feels that hard-wearing shoes may be needed.
Professionals may have to be hired for more complex home improvement tasks, the head of general insurance at M&S, Andrew Ferguson, has suggested.
He commented: 'We would urge people to check their home insurance policy covers them for accidental damage and whether there is a limit to this cover.'
Towards the start of April, Santander also pointed out the large financial consequences that people may have to deal with if they make DIY errors.
